Lake of the Ozarks, also referred to as the Magic Dragon due to it’s meandering shape, is located in the heart of Missouri on the northern edge of the ozark mountains. It wanders through the hills in between the towns of Eldon, Lake Ozark, Osage Beach, Linn Creek, Camdenton, Greenview, Climax Springs, Hurricane Deck, Sunrise Beach, Laurie, and Gravois Mills.
The lake is a man-made lake which formed after they dammed up the Osage River with Bagnell Dam in 1931. It’s over 90 miles long and 1,150 miles of shoreline. To put that in perspective, that is 310 miles longer than the coastline of California. The water surface area covers 55,000 acres which is larger than the entire land area of Florida and just a few thousand square feet smaller than the entire state of Florida.
Each year, millions of people visit the lake every summer, staying at their second homes or finding a nice resort or house rental to relax for a weekend or a week.
